Otoplasty is a surgical method for reshaping and resizing the ears to create a more harmonious aesthetic appearance. The procedure can be performed on both adults and children over the age of 6.
Procedure:
Otoplasty allows the "fixing" or reshaping of prominent ears to give them a more natural appearance. The surgery takes about an hour, and plastic surgeons may use various surgical techniques depending on the patient's personal characteristics and the goals of the procedure.
During the surgery, small incisions are made behind each ear to expose the cartilage. The cartilage is then reshaped, repositioned closer to the head, and secured in the new position.
Recovery:
Adults can resume their regular activities 2-3 days after otoplasty, while children can return to school after about a week, taking care not to bump their ears. A supportive elastic band will be worn for approximately 2 weeks to ensure effective healing. The scars from the incisions behind the ears will fade over time.
