The Digital X-ray of the Sacroiliac Joint is a diagnostic procedure used to visualize and assess the sacroiliac joints, which connect the sacrum (the lower part of the spine) with the iliac bones of the pelvis. This examination is conducted in two projections: anteroposterior and lateral, providing a comprehensive view of the joint structures.

Role in Diagnosis: This X-ray is a crucial diagnostic tool for identifying pathological changes in the pelvic and lower spinal areas. It helps evaluate the condition of the joint between the sacrum and the iliac bone and the surrounding tissues.

Indications: The X-ray of the sacroiliac joint may be indicated for:

  • Pelvic Pain: Pain in the pelvic region, sacrum, or lower back, which may be related to injuries, inflammatory processes, or degenerative changes in the joint.
  • Trauma: Such as pelvic bone fractures, ligament, or muscle injuries.
  • Joint Diseases: Conditions affecting the sacroiliac joint, like ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, or osteoarthritis.
  • Post-Surgical or Post-Traumatic Evaluation: Assessing the joint's condition after surgeries or injuries in the area.
  • Diagnosis of Congenital Anomalies: Detecting developmental abnormalities of the sacroiliac joint.

Preparation: Special preparation is generally not required for this X-ray, but it is recommended to:

  • Remove all clothing and jewelry containing metal.
  • Inform the doctor if you are pregnant or suspect you might be pregnant.
  • Notify the physician of any existing medical conditions and medications you are taking.

Procedure: The procedure is performed in two projections: anteroposterior and lateral. It involves:

  • Lying on the X-ray table in the required position.
  • The radiologist positioning the X-ray tube to capture the necessary images.
  • Remaining still during the exposure to ensure clear images.

The entire procedure takes only a few minutes and is straightforward.
