The Digital X-ray of the Nasopharynx (1 Projection) is a diagnostic imaging technique used to visualize the anatomical structures of the nasopharynx and surrounding areas. This method provides detailed images of the nasal cavity, pharynx, and adjacent bony structures using X-ray radiation.

Procedure: During the procedure, the patient will be positioned either standing or sitting. The X-ray machine will direct radiation towards the nasopharynx, with the detector placed on the opposite side. The patient must remain still during the imaging to ensure a clear picture.

Role in Diagnosis: This X-ray is an important tool for visualizing and assessing the condition of the nasal and pharyngeal areas. It helps in detecting anatomical anomalies, tumors, infections, and other pathological changes in these regions.

Indications: The X-ray may be prescribed for:

  • Evaluation of Nasal Breathing: To identify causes of obstructed nasal breathing, such as deviated septum, polyps, or tumors.
  • Infection Diagnosis: To detect inflammatory conditions like sinusitis or tonsillitis.
  • Trauma Assessment: To identify fractures in the nasal bones, jaw, or skull base following facial or cranial injuries.
  • Growth and Development Monitoring: In children, to assess the growth and development of nasopharyngeal structures.
  • Suspicion of Tumors: To detect neoplasms in the nasopharynx.

Preparation: No special preparation is required for the X-ray. However, it is recommended to:

  • Remove removable dental prosthetics, jewelry, and other metallic objects that may interfere with image quality.
  • Inform the physician about any potential or confirmed pregnancy, as special precautions may be needed.
  • Notify the physician of any allergies to contrast agents if their use is planned.
